ContainerBot project in cooperaton with the KULeuven which demonstrated the experiment of a robot for unloading randomly stacked boxes from big containers. This project lasted until May 2012 and formed also the inspiration for the name of the company being a fusion of 'Intermodal Robotics': robotics for each product type and each operational site.

During and after this project, INTERMODALICS started its first commercial activities, which allowed the company to grow to 6 full time employees today, assisted by a network of freelance contractuals. Half of the turnover of INTERMODALICS is realized by supplying software consultancy services in the robotics engineering market, the other half is realized by creating complete robotic systems on demand. Today, INTERMODALICS has active customers in the USA, Belgium, France, Spain, the UK and its primary geographic market is Europe for supplying robotic systems or related components. INTERMODALICS is actively prospecting the Benelux to grow its activities. INTERMODALICS is a research-oriented and innovative company with active contacts with the University of Leuven and other knowledge institutes in Leuven, such as the Belgian located FMTC and Sirris. It employs engineers with a PhD background, where the commercial responsibility is taken care of by the founder of the company. It investigates with own means 3D vision algorithms and robot calibration methods, with an eye for the recent developments in the academic world and with active contributions to Open Source projects.
